Captain’s Log 41625:  After a very successful Day 2 at Kentucky Lake, confidence was high and angling spirits were soaring. For whatever reason… falling lake, rising barometric pressure, too sunny, not enough wind, too much wind, moon phase, and any and off of the cliched reasons why bass quit biting all apply here.

The bass in the bushes disappeared except for one lone bass. The 2 ½ pound largemouth was hiding in the flooded brush on the outside breakwall at Moors Resort. A Will boss soft plastic lure on a Texas rig fooled the bruiser. Forget looking for the Will Boss at your favorite tackle shop. The bait is made by Will Presley of Columbus and that’s not even what he calls this bait. Only Rich Carter and I call it the Will Boss. Hint: think of the Berkley bait called the pit boss.

The only other fish to come aboard the Skeeter was a smallmouth bass while my bass boat was beached on the shoreline below the cabin Mary and I are sharing with the wonder dog, Chance. Mar was taking relief at the cabin while I stood guard at the boat to make sure it stayed beached.

On my third cast with a Prowler tube in the roadkill color, the smallie was the first catch of the day. So much for dragging a bass boat nearly 300 miles. Mary has accompanied me on the boat every time a fishing adventure was undertaken on this trip. However, the call of the wild did not sound for her for the afternoon trip on day 3. Therefore, the only other fish of the day had just one witness to describe his outstanding effort to avoid being landed.

By far the best catch of the day was made at Popi’s Restaurant in Draffenville. The outstanding cuisine at this family eatery offers an international menu here smack dab in the heart of fried chicken and sausage & gravy country. We had Mediterranean something in colors I don’t normally associate with food, but it was delicious. Thank goodness I didn’t have to spell it to eat it. If ever in Draffenville, make Popi’s one of your destinations for a great meal.

The Day 3 fishing was disappointing, but a Day 4 development provided a rally that put a great finishing touch on our five day stay at Moors.
