OHIO – There’s a new bait company in town, and its name is Cull Logic. The man behind the logic is a Central Ohio bass tournament angler by the name of Bob Schinker. Soft plastics are Bob’s specialty. With no shortage of soft plastic baits on the market, I asked Bob why in the pre-spawn world did he start a business selling them.
“I ask myself that everyday,” laughed the luremaker, “but I enjoy making things and it sure has made the winter go faster.”
He has found that the manufacture and selling aspects of a lure business are not quite as challenging as product distribution. For that reason, Bob says he plans to stay small, stay focused, and enjoy Cull Logic as a hobby for now.
I have been able to pinpoint another issue that will arise on Bob’s horizon very soon and that’s when those great looking baits start catching bass and winning tournaments. Of his 20 varieties of baits, I have to say my favorite is the Cull Boss. The soft texture and four flappers on its tail have made it my favorite flipping and pitching bait.
It works in all types of cover but I have had my best luck fishing it in weedbeds. I Texas rig it on a 2/0 or 3/0 Aaron Martens Gamakatsu G Finesse hook with a 3/16 or 3/8 ounce tungsten slip sinker. I do not peg the sinker, but that’s because I’m too lazy to fiddle with that feature.
Brad Bond tells me it’s because I don’t have any self-awareness. When I told him I didn’t even know what that meant, he yelled “SEE! That’s what I mean!” However, I can guarantee that when it comes to fishing this year, my approach will be a very logical one, especially with Cull Bosses in the colors watermelon, green pumpkin, and green pumpkin purple.
Finding Cull Logic on Facebook and at www.culllogic.com are the best ways to contact Bob. Tell him that Doug Clifford told you about Cull Logic, and then let me know if he said “Who?”
